The Bon Don Marketing Campaign
DATE

ASSIGNMENT
Create a concept for a marketing campaign design. Create an ad campaign for an existing product, company, or brand. Another option: offer design services to a friend, business owner, or local organization for pro bono work (or even paid work).
Create one Facebook ad, one Instagram ad, and four display ads from the concept. Use a headline, branding, and imagery to create an effective design. Maintain the established visual hierarchy from the approved concept, a ten-pixel margin on all sides, the text must retain legibility and readability and use the correct color mode for the deliverable.

I created a marketing campaign for The Bon Don, a bonnet and hair care business and an existing client.
This was probably the most challenging assignment I’ve completed for my graphic design certification. In the planning process, I wanted to make the concept simplistic yet impactful, similar to Nike or Heinz print/magazine ads. I did some research before designing. The concept surrounded a black woman, concerned about her edges/hair and seeing The Bon Don bonnet above her like a heavenly gift, letting her know her edges are in good hands. Initially, the ad was too cluttered; I used two other bonnet images and it was too much. After sharing the initial design with friends, I learned less is more when it comes to display ads.
I started the design process and with certain dimensions, the images and words were very pixelated. The image size vs. canvas size was confusing. I also had to ensure the file size was under 150K and the highest resolution. It was hard to maintain both.
