WORK
Typographic Poster Design
ASSIGNMENT
Design an event poster using typography as the primary visual element. Use letterforms and word forms to create line, shape, form, texture, and space in the design. Use only one type family.
Use the elements of design to create design interactions that create a visually interesting and unified composition. Ensure the objects used to create these arrangements are letterforms and word forms.

I created an event poster for a private screening of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I used Willy Wonka’s hat as the typographic visual element.
I initially planned to create an event poster for the Sundance Film Festival, using a cowboy hat as the typographic visual element. However, while using the Compound path tool, I realized it would be hard to read text inside of a cowboy hat because of the small crevices. After a few other failed attempts with movies (such as Batman), I landed on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. This movie event allowed me to use the hat concept and create an interesting composition.
I used the Roc Grotesk font family because of its wide range of font variations and used a split complementary color scheme, focusing on purple and yellow to highlight the Wonka henchmen a.k.a. the infamous oompa loompas.
